ADVANTAGES OF AGE AWARDS CEREMONY 2025

HOXTON HALL, THURSDAY 20TH NOVEMBER, 8 PM.

After the massive success of the inaugural 2023 Advantages of Age Awards, we’re thrilled to announce that the 2025 Awards Ceremony is officially happening!Co-founders Suzanne Noble and Rose Rouse, who launched Advantages of Age in 2016 to challenge the media’s narrative around ageing, are bringing the celebration back bigger and better than ever. The hall is booked, nominations will soon be open, and sponsors are lining up to support this inspiring event.Join us to honour the amazing individuals and organisations championing pro-ageing and proving that life only gets better with time.Don’t miss this unforgettable celebration in 2025!

WHY Advantages of Age?

Because old is still a dirty word and Advantages of Age believes in celebrating getting older and doing it in style. Because we’re alive and kicking and ready to mark all those inspiring beings and organisations who are part of the societal change that we’d like to see. Let’s big up the change-makers.Because we want to call out ageism at the same time. There are Granny headlines every day, there are people in the press talking constantly about age being just a number, about people looking great for their age, about looking young being the eternal aim. Fuck that, we’re sick of it. Time for an age revolution. The UK’s population is ageing, the 2011 census showed that 49% of the population was aged over 40, while in 2021, it was recorded that 18.6% of people were aged over 65 and it’s getting bigger. Advantages of Age is on a mission to change the record – by not only reclaiming old but also re-imagining it.The Advantages of Age Awards 2025 are about re-visioning age for a modern age.

art exhibition

Mish Moon

That’s The Spirit – the exhibition by Mish MoonThat’s The Spirit! What qualities in people inspire me as I age, and how do I feel about ageing?I had recently seen a painting exhibition with Rose Rouse and I was struck how - particularly in the representations of older women - they seemed physically defeated and crushed, as if weighed down by their years and experience. Later, brainstorming with another friend these phrases emerged:I am creativeI’m still learningI am relevantI love dancingI’m not invisibleI live in the moment - not in the past (carpe diem)I’ve selected six images - portraits of people who have caught my eye because they embody the spirited qualities I identify with. Three of them are here. The rest will be on the walls when you arrive!BIO:Originally an art historian, Mish went on to study photography at the University of Westminster. She taught interdisciplinary cultural studies at the Open University and then focussed on teaching film studies in adult education. Mish now concentrates on her own photography and artwork and publishes a regular photography blog. She is from London and lives in Kentish Town which features in two ongoing projects - Changing Views and Persian Kentish Town, inspired by her heritage. Mish is also a musician and over the years has photographed singers and percussionists from London’s Afro Cuban Music scene. Her eye is influenced by her interest in art history and visual culture, producing images reminiscent of found abstracts in her everyday wanderings. She is interested in revealing traces of human activity and the ideas of transience and memory in the city.Mish has had two solo photography exhibitions in London including one at Soho’s iconic Bar Italia and participated in numerous international exhibitions.Photo of Mish is by Stephen MoonLinksWebsite: https://www.mishaminoff.com
